The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN, Switzerland
Description of the investment:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of most respected centres for scientific research. At CERN, the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments are used to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles.
The instruments used at CERN are particle accelerators and detectors. Accelerators boost beams of particles to high energies before they are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets. Detectors observe and record the results of these collisions.
The Large Hadron Collider, located 100m under the ground, mainly consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. Introl has developed, designed and delivered the temperature control system for the accelerator’s CMS detector.
Scope of work:
• conceptual design of control system
• design of DCS and SCADA visualization
• delivery, assembly and system start up
